Welcome

It is time to set the Record Straight on the STEP Program.  Click here to get the facts.

I’ve been a resident of Galveston County for over 45 years. I am the only candidate who is a true conservative public servant who has selflessly dedicated his entire legal career to public service and protecting the law abiding citizens of Galveston County.

I have always believed that hard work and perseverance always pays off; in personal responsibility; in giving back to my community that has given so much to me; and in family values. I don’t just talk about these beliefs and values out of political convenience; I live these beliefs and values everyday.

I started my career in public service right out of law school. I was hired as an assistant criminal district attorney in December of 1987. I chose to work in the Galveston County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, making less money than working in a private law firm, because I wanted to use my skills and talents to make a true difference in our judicial system and be an integral part of helping to protect our community. That’s where my heart and passion are and have always been.

I quickly worked my way through the ranks of the District Attorney’s Office. I was promoted to Chief of the Misdemeanor Section within one year of being hired. Two months later I was promoted to the Felony Section of the D.A.’s Office. I successfully tried and prosecuted a wide variety of felony cases ranging from possession to delivery of drugs, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault of a child and murder. In just a little over four years I was appointed as the First Assistant Criminal District Attorney. Some responsibilities as First Assistant included helping run the D.A.’s office, supervising 27 attorneys, and trying the high profile and most serious cases that came through the D.A.’s Office, including murder and capital murder cases. I took the most dangerous of the dangerous criminals off our streets. By the time I left the D.A.’s Office to become a judge, I had tried over 65 felony jury cases. I tried 22 murder cases, 7 of those were capital murder cases. None of the convictions and lengthy sentences I secured as a prosecutor were ever reversed on appeal. This means I not only zealously prosecuted my cases, but I also did it according to the law so the victims of these crimes wouldn’t have to endure a new trial.

In November of 2000 I was elected as first Judge of the 405th Judicial District Court, Galveston County, Texas. In my Court everyone is treated w/dignity and respect, and at the same time I maintain an orderly and organized court. I am described by participants in my court as patient, conscientious and knowledgeable. I also always put forth my best effort to see that justice is served in each case that comes before me. This is why I have such a broad based support from both the civil plaintiffs’ attorneys and civil defense attorneys’ bar.

I hold criminals responsible for their conduct. My invaluable experience as both First Assistant Criminal District Attorney and as a judge make me uniquely qualified to determine when it is appropriate and sometimes legally required to place an offender on probation and how to effectively handle probationers who violate the conditions of their probation. I have a solid reputation for being a fair, but tough judge. This is a reputation based on a proven record on the bench and not political rhetoric. That is why I always have been, and still am, supported by law enforcement officers, probation officers and assistant district attorneys who know me and/or have been in my court. I believe this is why I have run unopposed since being elected.

To date I have presided over numerous and variety of civil jury trials and felony criminal jury trials, including 18 homicide and capital murder cases. This is a total of 23 years of dedicated public service. I have happily committed my career, experience and talents to serving the good people of Galveston County as a dedicated, fair, impartial and hard-working judge. Being Judge of the 405th District Court isn’t just a job; it is my passion and I believe it is my calling.

I believe in giving back to the community that has given so much to me. Please see my long list of community involvement under my “Meet Wayne” tab.

This year I have been very happily married 20 years to my beautiful, intelligent, talented and strong wife, Sherry. Sherry is the one person who is most responsible for who I am and where I am. Sherry is the most wonderful wife & mother any man could ask for.

Sherry and I are blessed with two wonderful Children: Corey & Madeleine, who are the pride and joy of our lives. Anyone who knows or has met our children describes them as being respectful and polite. When they are grown and living full, happy & productive lives of their own, they will be the proudest accomplishment of my life.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported me in the past and my new supporters.

I am asking you to keep my qualifications, experience and proven record on the bench working for you. You can do this by donating to my campaign and/or volunteering, and by spreading the word to your friends and family, but most important of all, I need your vote in the Republican primary on March 6, 2012.

Thank you,
Judge Wayne J. Mallia
